Her Independence.

It was 15th of  August. Independence was being celebrated all over the country. “Bharat Mata ki Jai “was the slogan. Patriotism level was high. People were walking with flags in their hands or with a badge with Tiranga on it attached to their chest. News channels were filled with documentaries on partition and independence.  Schools were celebrating the day with dance and plays. Meanwhile, on the gate of one such gate, Pinki was standing. Gazing on the stage, her eyes were bright. She didn’t know what was happening or what the function was for. The guard scolded her every time, but she came back, such was her stubbornness. She was only 10 and had no education. Her father made her beg and then drank all of it. The country was independent since 1947 but she wasn’t. She was a slave of poverty and we did nothing. Independence Day ended but her dreams remained same, waiting to be crushed by the society.
